What Our Users Say
Hear from principals and administrators who are using Observation Copilot to streamline their teacher observation process.
Jason Cunningham - Stockdale, TX
Principal, Stockdale Independent School District
Observation Copilot has helped me to streamline and speed up the teacher feedback process. In the past, it's taken me up to two weeks to get the final report written, identify areas of strength and weakness, and then finally sit down and be able to have the meeting with the teacher to go over it. [..] So using Observation Copilot, I'm able to organize the notes that I take during the lesson into summaries about the different dimensions in the background, while I get straight to the work of rating the lesson on the rubric. And the true power of the process is identifying areas of strength and weakness for that teacher, so that I can begin coaching them in the things that I've identified that could improve their teaching.
Mike Davis - Auburn, ME
Principal, Sherwood Heights Elementary School
Observation Copilot has been a game changer for me. In the past, I would go in, type verbatim the things I'm seeing, hearing, what teachers are doing, what students are doing. Then I would take the time, often 30 to 40 minutes post observation time, to analyze the data and determine the dominant Marzano elements that are within the framework we're using. Then I would provide targeted feedback based upon that analyzed approach. With Observation Copilot, I'm now able to take my observation notes, paste them into the platform, Observation Copilot, and they analyze my data instantly. This saves me so much time. I'm incredibly thankful I've fallen upon this amazing resource and highly recommend it to others.
Trina Poole - Tallmadge, OH
Assistant Principal, Tallmadge High School
I like to use Observation Copilot. It's really changed how I give feedback to teachers. Before, I was trying to juggle note taking, trying to remember key moments of the observations, spending a lot of time trying to write everything up. It could easily take me an hour or more per observation to get those things done. But now using Observation Copilot, I can capture notes and organize evidence as I watch the lesson, which means I'm spending less time afterward drafting the feedback because it's right there for me. It also makes my feedback more accurate because it takes the scripting that I did and puts it into the format that we use, and I'm not just relying on my memory. So I can point to specific moments because it pulls it out of my notes. So overall, it saves a lot of time and mental energy, and I think teachers get more useful, timely feedback.
Brent Perdue - Spokane, WA
Principal, Spokane Public Schools - Jefferson Elementary School
Observation Copilot has been a true game changer for me. When I think about our previous practice of doing observations, [...] it was definitely before, a pretty ruptured process. [...] The thing about Observation Copilot is that I didn't necessarily use all the suggestions it would provide. But it took that piece of the wordsmithing, of having the language flow, where I could really go down and just put in the facts of what I'm seeing. [...] I was just really impressed at how it would know how to pull the different things in from various parts of our instructional framework to provide really good feedback.
Teresa A. Pena-Rodriguez - San Antonio, TX
Assistant Principal, San Antonio Independent School District
Observation Copilot has allowed me an opportunity to be able to provide feedback to the teachers within the same day, versus 24 to 48 hours. Being able to have access to the tool, it gives me very specific feedback, and it just makes it an easier process for me. The feature that provides the biggest difference for me is being able to select the specific framework and the indicators. Using that will provide the best analysis of the feedback, giving it very targeted feedback.
Andrea Arispe - San Antonio, TX
Assistant Principal, San Antonio Independent School District
One of the biggest benefits for me of using Observation Copilot has been the time that it has saved me in releasing or in typing up my instructional feedback. The actual process with Observation Copilot has alleviated that time that it takes for me to go back and look at which domain it's aligned to and making sure that I'm using the correct verbiage in our rubric. It has laid it out all for me. It gives me the ideas to consider, it takes my scripting and it automatically prescribes or summarizes based on each domain.
Mary Driscoll - Boston, MA
Clinical Teacher Educator, Boston Teacher Residency
It really helped me, not so much with the way I gather data during an observation, but the way I'm able to process it and especially the way I'm able to tie my observations to the teacher rubric. I especially like the way it included suggested next steps for each standard on the rubric. [...] The feature that makes the biggest difference for me is that in creating that summary, I can tag the standards from the Massachusetts Teacher framework that I want to focus on. Then the observation summary is written up with those standards highlighted and with both strengths and areas for development, and next steps included.
Brian Falhamer - Fairlawn, OH
Principal, Fort Island Primary School
It was nice as we started to use it and teachers were comfortable with the platform. It was actually able to put all my data in there very quickly and target different areas of the observation that I thought would be helpful. It really engaged a lot of different teachers as well. They were able to receive specific feedback and timely feedback. It definitely sped up our process. Teachers could get very quick feedback, and informative feedback that was super helpful for them. I really think using this is very helpful. I will continue to use it and try to modify the way I type things in so we can get the best results. But I will definitely continue to use Observation Copilot.
Tricia Gessele - Spokane, WA
Principal, Spokane School District
Observation Copilot has changed the way I give teachers feedback, because it's more specific. It gives more specific examples, and we're able to get to some meatier conversations quicker, because Observation Copilot brings back those pieces quickly for me, and I'm able to pull out the pieces that really support my teacher's feedback. I'm able to plug and play a lot of the pieces that in the past sometimes would take quite a bit of labor and quite a bit of time to thoughtfully give feedback to teachers. Now I'm able to go and do that part, and change the little parts that I want, and it's an amazing piece to be able to give very specific and helpful feedback to teachers.
